Billy the Kid Returns!

FUSEcast #10 is up with Billy the Kid. Billy's music is really pretty, but she also works very hard at what she does. She was recently featured on ExploreMusic with Alan Cross, and The Hour with Strombo. The interview was a lot of fun, and I'm excited for people to hear it.

Julie Doiron Farted on Me

FUSEcast #9 is up with Julie Doiron. Julie was in town to play with the Cons and Ladyhawk at CTO awhile back. Julie was amazing, super nice, and played a great set. She also farted on me during our interview in a tiny room. Okay, not on me, but the room was like 2' x 2'!

Either way, we survived, and the show turned out great. Check it out at LondonFuse.ca!

A Walk By the River

People forget about the trails by the river more than anything else in the city. They're well kept, they're gorgeous, and in less than 30 seconds you can go from downtown to forest by the river. It's amazing.

To help remind people, I took some pictures of the trails by my place. I'm not a pro photographer, but I don't think you have to be to see why the trails are a gem in this city.

These trails are the reason I go for runs twice a week (and therefore am not a fatty). They're the one place in the city where I feel like we're called the "forest" city for a reason. I can run from my place downtown on King to Western Campus, and back again on another trail on the other side of river. That's only the North leg of the main trails. There's still three other directions/legs, and a number of independent trail areas throughout the city.

Head here for a little more info, or just check out the map (large pdf). You can also pick up a copy of the map all over town.

Excited for New FUSEcasts

Lately I've been getting really pumped for FUSEcast.

Things changed a bit lately. Nick, my co-host / comrade in arms, left the province and shipped out to Kelowna, B.C. for a shweet new job, and now I'm flying solo. At first I thought this would hinder things, but I've actually had a big boost of energy for the show. First I looked at the old shows and realized they were all mismatched in terms of numbering and structure, so I fixed them all up so I'd have a good base to start with. Then I started working on a new episode, but while doing it, restructured most of the show to create (I hope) something a little more streamlined, fresh, and fun. FUSEcast #8 with Saint Alvia turned out great, and I'm going to do my best to have a new episode every week from now on.

So that all percolates to the main point of this article. Here's who's coming up on the next few episodes of FUSEcast:

Excited. New episode launches Tuesday!

Bossman at CMW

My bossman over at Fanshawe Radio, Michael Stoparczyk, is a jerk and went to Canadian Music Week without me! I know right? That said, he's been twittering from Toronto pulling out some of the best bits of advice, particularly within the radio industry. This might not all be for you if you're not a radio head like the rest of us in my program, but check it out if you're interested.

Here's what he's picked up/tweeted so far:

- On the train heading to Canadian Music Week.

- Sunny in T.O., maybe CMW is outdoors this year?

- Its official, my badge says Executive Delegate...

- Commercials aren't to hook and land the sale, they should influence the listener.

- Radio sales people sell the first campaign... RADIO SUCCESS sells the next and the next.

- A bad campaign or commercial will make people change the station... Commercials are the glue that holds it all together.

- RADIO: Connect. Engage. Deliver.

- Don't be logical... be emotional!

- Become the listener... What are they FEELING, not what are they thinking.

- Really here for the Street Meat... Lunch outside Union Station. Mayo, Ketchup, German Mustard, Olives... Mmmmm good.

- Radio needs to embrace local and be HYPER LOCAL.

- RADIO is the original social media hub

- Everything on the station has to be a product of what your community wants!

- Remember, eat at a GREEN restaurant.

That's the word so far! I'll update this when I get some more. Go radio.
